Children’s Science Explorium
Sugar Sand Park’s Children’s Science Explorium has several fascinating programs and exhibits designed for students between the ages of 5 and 12. Take your elementary students on a hands-on adventure, allowing them to explore the wonders of science with its sounds, chemical changes, and living things.
For an on-site trip, schedule a day using the center’s website. During the field trip, there’s a science playground and carousel students can explore during their free time during lunch or after the program is over. At lunchtime, sit with your kids at The Classroom Patio or Family Pavilion, next to the science playground.

The center has a protected barrier island spanning 20 acres for conservation and education, with a heavy focus on sea turtles. You can take your class to explore the history of sea turtles and why it’s essential to save them because they’re an endangered species. They can learn about how to do their part to help the turtles in their everyday lives, such as throwing their trash away and recycling their papers.
If you purchase tickets right on time, you can see the center release its turtle hatchlings to the sea, engaging children to watch in awe as the turtles crawl into the sea. After learning about sea turtles, take your students on a walking trail adventure to explore even more fun nature sites. On your exploration, you may see Florida’s state butterfly, the zebra longwing, located right inside the butterfly garden. Take your passionate theater students to explore The Wick, a theater and costume museum. In the theater, you can see a show and explore the plethora of costumes on display. The museum has gathered over 1.2 million pieces from Broadway productions and revivals. Students can view their favorite show’s costumes and props and learn about the history behind each one. Purchase coordinating theater tickets after perusing the exhibits to take your students to watch a live production. As they’re watching, they can learn about various performing methods they may like to emulate in their performance.

The museum’s archives hold many artifacts for students to observe, including historical objects, diary entries, and maps.
